Shotts St Patricks and Croy Parish silver bands are still in celebration mode after performing for Pope Benedict XVI at Bellahouston Park last Thursday.

Papal visit

The band performed a varied programme of traditional hymn tunes, a few Scottish arrangements as well as some music composed specifically for the event to commemorate the Papal visit and welcome ‘His Holiness’ to Scotland.

Lynsey Mcilwraith told 4BR: "The sun was shining, there was an audience in the region of 70,000 and the band's performance was well received by all so we all enjoyed a fantastic and memorable day. For many this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that will not be forgotten."

It was reported later that the Pope had enjoyed the music provided, although his views on X Factor winners Michelle McManus and Susan Boyle were diplomatically not recorded.
