Tredegar set for Champions League debut

British Open champion set to help with the atmosphere at Champions League Final at Wembley.

British Open champions Tredegar will perform at the Champions League Final at Wembley on Saturday.

Global event

With Grimethorpe declining the initial invitation from the organisers to take part in the pre match entertainment, Tredegar were contacted and accepted the opportunity to play a musical role in the global event.

Ideal boost

Band Manager Alwyn Powell told 4BR: "It’s an ideal boost for the band after all the hard work preparing for the Europeans and Masters.

It’s not what we would usually do, but given the amount of media interest in the event and the coverage it is gaining all over the world, it was an opportunity to relax and enjoy a very different kind of competition atmosphere."

The dream job was organised by Phillip Morris of Kapitol Promotions.

He told 4BR: "We were contacted and asked to organise things quickly because of the contacts Kapitol maintains within the banding movement. We were delighted to assist the promoters and help Tredegar as British Open champions to represent UK banding at a global event."

Friendly atmosphere

Tredegar have been asked to provide themed music to encourage a friendly atmosphere on the way to the iconic venue and have been given Manchester United and Barcelona apparel to wear to ensure that there are no accusations of musical bias.

Fun

"It’s fun and gives the players something different to look forward to before the Masters on the Sunday," MD, Ian Porthouse added.

"And you never know who may be watching either. We wouldn’t mind doing this for the Rugby World Cup or the Olympics too."
