All England Masters International organisers Philip Biggs and Richard Franklin have announced that the great euphonium virtuoso Trevor Groom has agreed to present the Masters Dedicated Service Award to this year’s recipient, Derick Kane.
Gala presentation
The presentation will take place during the Masters Gala Concert on 27th May at the Lighthouse Theatre, Kettering, which features 2011 champion Tredegar and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery.
Regarded as perhaps one of the finest euphonium players in Salvation Army banding history, Derick Kane,has been the principal euphonium of the International Staff Band since the mid 1970s, was delighted to hear this news.
Massive amount
A spokesman for the Masters told 4BR: “Derick Kane has given a massive amount to brass bands in general and the ISB in particular and it is most fitting that Trevor will be making the presentation.”

Concert and coverage
The concert featuring Carlton Main Frickley and Tredegar Town Band starts at 7.30pm. Earlier in the day twenty bands will compete for the 2012 All England Masters International title where the test-piece is ‘Comedy Overture’.
