Grimey leads successful delegates day

The annual Brass & Percussion workshop day in Pontefract attracted 90 students to benefit from the Grimey touch.

The annual Brass & Percussion Workshop run by the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association saw 90 students from the North of England and Midlands converging on Minsthorpe Community College near Pontefract, to spend the day with tutors from Grimethorpe Colliery Band under course leader Sandy Smith.

Varied programme

Sandy chose a varied programme of music for the delegates to tackle, including the hymn, ‘Gresham’, ‘Great British Marches’, ‘Stage Centre’, ‘Mr. Jums’ and ‘A Colliers Suite’ amongst others.

Popular

The popular event included full band rehearsals and sectionals during which the tutors, Alex Kerwin, Jamie Cooper, Michael Wells, Shaun Crowther, John Watterson and Sandy himself coached the students and passed on their musical expertise.

The day culminated with a successful concert, with the opportunity given to thank the staff at Minsthorpe Conference Centre for the use of their excellent facilities4BR
