Whittingham retirement at SLFB

After 19 years at the helm, Major George Whittingham has retired from his role as conductor of the South London Fellowship Band.

 

4BR has been informed that Major George Whittingham has relinquished his position as Conductor of the South London Fellowship Band (SLFB) after 19 years.

Life time

Major Whittingham has enjoyed a lifetime's experience of brass banding at the highest levels, which included Deputy Bandmaster of the International Staff Band and Bandmaster of Upper Norwood Band of the Salvation Army.

Founded

He founded the SLFB in 1994 and developed them to a standard whereby it successfully undertook many concerts, away weekends and tours as well as recording six CDs.

He will be succeeded as Musical Director by Darrell Scholes, the band’s present Associate Conductor, who is an accomplished player, musician and conductor with a wide experience of Salvation Army banding.

The band wishes to place on record its grateful thanks and appreciation to George for his devoted and inspired musicianship, leadership and commitment throughout this long period and wishes him well for the futureSLFB
