The Scottish Brass Band Association has given a heavyweight response to criticism aimed at the organisation and its running of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland by former SBBA Development Officer Alan Edmond.

Vigorous

In an open letter to 4BR, SBBA President George Burt has vigorously defended the organisation’s strategy for the various Youth Bands under its control and the policies it will gradually implement in regard to future change — including the appointment of tutorial staff.

Better experience

In the letter he states that SBBA ‘...expect the overall outcome to be a better experience for the students, which remains our top priority’ and that a ‘...strategic aim is to widen the recruitment basis and give wider opportunities for players throughout Scotland’.

We expect the overall outcome to be a better experience for the students, which remains our top priorityGeorge Burt

Productive meeting

He also states that he has also enjoyed a productive meeting with NYBBS MD Richard Evans to discuss the future of NYBBS.
