Unite the Union (City of Sheffield) Band has announced the signing of Mike Kilmartin on soprano cornet. In addition to his new playing role, Mike will also become the band’s Arranger in Residence.

Looking forward

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Mike is a very experienced player and skilled arranger, so we are looking forward to working with him in both capacities."

The band has also announced the signing of Mary Golder on second trombone. She joins the regular section of Claire Taylor, Mary Golder and Joel Stephano.

Perc boost

Meanwhile, the percussion section has been boosted by the addition of Martin Bullock and Steve Powell with the additional bonus of the return of percussionist Gavin Somerset in the New Year.
