Frank Renton is officially Pointless

Our man at the Beeb reaches a new level of fame as a pointless answer on the popular BBC1 quiz show — as a classical big band presenter!!!

Frank Renton

Frank Renton has reached a new level of media fame today after he officially became ‘Pointless’.

Popular

He joined the likes of Jools Holland, Huey Morgan, Clare Teal and Diane Louise Jordan as a nil point answer in the immensely popular BBC1 general knowledge quiz show hosted by presenters Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman.

Classical Big Band presenter!

However, to compound matters the usually impeccable Richard Osman who reveals the answers, showed his total ignorance of all things brass bands by saying that Frank hosted a regular show on ‘classical big band music’....

Millions of viewers

The show regularly attracts audiences in the millions and is a particular favourite with students (rumoured because it is shown at some time in the afternoon after they are up...), with Frank’s name coming up as a pointless answer after the contestants were asked to name BBC Radio 2 presenters.

Usual suspects

The usual suspects of Terry Wogan and Ken Bruce got plenty of votes, ahead of the likes of Simon Mayo, Whispering Bob Harris and even Graham Norton, but at least Frank was in good company with the former Squeeze front man...
