A decade of success comes to an end at Tylorstown as Gary Davies calls time on his musical leadership of former double National Champion.

Cheltenham 2013 win

The Tylorstown Band has announced the end of their highly successful 10 year association with Musical Director Gary Davies.

Over the past decade Gary led the Rhondda valley band from the Second Section to the Championship Section, winning a brace of National Championship of Great Britain titles in 2010 and 2013 (above) along the way.

Welsh Conductor of the Year

In addition, he helped Tylorstown secure a brace of Welsh Regional titles, two National Eisteddfod of Wales crowns and numerous prizes in the Welsh League series, whilst he was honoured for his achievements with prestigious Welsh Conductor of the Year awards in 2010 and 2013.

In recent years the band has enjoyed competing with great merit at the Spring Festival, All England Masters and the Band Cymru contest.

Unprecedented success

Band Manager Kevin Jones told 4BR: "Everyone at Tylorstown would like to express their thanks for the hard work and commitment Gary has shown in leading the band over the last 10 years — a period of unprecedented success in our history."

In the past ten years, wonderful friends and players have made such significant progress to get where we are today. I leave with so many great memories of fantastic achievementsGary Davies

Great memories

Gary himself added: "When I came to the band in 2005, they were ranked well outside the top 200 bands in the world and were struggling to make an impact at Second Section level.

In the past ten years, wonderful friends and players have made such significant progress to get where we are today. I leave with so many great memories of fantastic achievements.

I wish the band all the success in going forward and hope they build on the foundation we established together."
