Rochdale contest ready for flying start

The clocks go back and the local Flying Horse pub will be open as a rejuvenated Rochdale Contest offers something for everyone this weekend.

The North West Area Brass Bands Association has released the names of the competing bands that will take part in a rejuvenated NWABBA Contest in Rochdale this weekend.

There will be plenty of great action to enjoy over the two days at Rochdale Town Hall, with competitors in six sections taking part in a contest that has attracted both renewed interest and sponsorship.

Youth bands

On Saturday it will be the turn of the youth bands who will perform their 20-minute programmes that must include an own choice test piece.

They will be competing for an array of prizes including a memorial trophy dedicated to Ron Chalker for the 'Best Soprano Cornet'. Chalker Products are also sponsoring the Youth Section event.

Mike Kilroy will be judging and the contest kicks off at 1.00pm.

Senior bands

On Sunday, no less than 37 bands will battle for honours, with the Fourth Section contenders reminded that the clocks go back this weekend, so they shouldn't be late for the 9.00am start!

Bands are also reminded that the Flying Horse public house is offering a post contest party too.

June 17 • Our COMMUNITY BAND meet again on Monday (22nd) and we welcome players of all standards to join us for a relaxed,friendly rehearsal with Tea and cake and it’s all free.. Rehearsals are at 11am in our own bandroom playing with us does not effect your band.

June 16 • Longridge Band invite applications for the positions of Flugel and Eb Bass.. We are a friendly and committed band that enjoys a great balance of concerts and contests throughout the year. A contribution to travel expenses are provided.


Harrogate Band

June 15 • After a fantastic result at the Wetherby Drovers Contest, The Harrogate Band are looking for a front row and a back row cornet player to complete the team. Rehearsals Weds 8pm with occasional Sundays at our own bandroom with great transport links
