Varley to take Hammonds top seat

The talented Philip Varley moves from repiano to make principal cornet debut at St George's Hall with Hammonds Saltaire.

Hammonds Saltaire has announced that Philip Varley has been appointed as their new principal cornet, and will make his debut in the role at the forthcoming Championship Section Yorkshire Area contest.

Principal

The talented player joined Hammonds in 2013 on repiano cornet after enjoying a highly successful spell with Elland Silver.

He is a former 'Best Soloist' award winner at the National Youth Band Championship and has also played principal cornet with Diggle Band and for the few years, the James Shepherd Versatile Brass group.

Signings

The band has also announced that James Beecham joins Philip on the front row bench from Hade Edge, with the experienced Garry Bates coming in on soprano.

The talented teenager Charlotte Horsfield has moved up to cover the solo trombone seat as Jo Reasbeck takes a short break following the birth of her first child, whilst Daniel McLaughlin joins on second trombone from Carlton Main. Graeme Law also comes in from Carlton Main on percussion.
