Sop star Kevin Moxon will have the choice of two different musical platforms at York Railway Institute...

York Railway Institute Golden Rail Band will be welcoming a new MD to the platform following the appointment of Kevin Moxon to the role.

Three nights

Kevin will now spend three nights a week at the York Railway Institute's busy band room adjacent to York Station, as he will also continue to play for Championship Section York Railway Institute Band.

Kevin and his wife Jayne joined York RI six months ago, but when the position of MD for sister band Golden Rail became vacant in January, the veteran soprano player agreed to take over.

Delighted

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to confirm Kevin's new role and welcomes the strengthening of ties across the RI's family of bands."

The band stated that they hoped that Kevin's vast playing experience with bands in many different areas and levels throughout the UK will be of huge benefit to them.

Playing soprano at Championship level and getting to conduct again means having the best of both worldsKevin Moxon

Best of both worlds

Meanwhile, he told 4BR: "Playing soprano at Championship level and getting to conduct again means having the best of both worlds.

I'm looking forward to my playing and conducting of the Golden Rail Band and to many happy years of music making at the York Railway Institute."
