Allegro Optical Ltd, a pioneering optician business that has gained widespread acclaim for working closely with musicians has gained further acclaim after being nominated for a series of regional business awards.

After opening in March 2017, the family run company based in Meltham and Greenfield in Saddleworth has now been shortlisted for a number of regional business awards, including 'Best Business & Product Innovation Award' run by the Federation of Small Businesses.

The Musician's Optician

Allegro Optical has quickly become known as 'The Musicians' Optician' and has gained acclaim for being able to help many players extend professional careers and their enjoyment of their hobby when reduced vision threatens early retirement.

It's the latest accolade to come the company's way after co-founder and dispensing optician Sheryl Doe won the prestigious 'Entrepreneur of the Year' award last year for her work in specialising with the eye care of musicians.

And it is in that field that Allegro Optical is now linking up with both professional and amateur players of all ages and abilities who require specialist advice and products for their needs — including the likes of Cory's star flugel player Helen Williams.

Specific

Allegro Optical is the only optician in the UK to manufacture lenses specifically for musicians. These unique lenses give the musician a much wider field of view than the usual varifocals and computer lenses most opticians prescribe.

"Being music lovers and brass band fans we felt this was a specialist area we should explore and develop more,"Sheryl told 4BR. "Such has been the success that we now deal with players from all over the country — and especially with brass band players.

Our expertise and understanding has built up our professional reputation — something that we are delighted that has been recognised by our nominations and awards. However, we are even more delighted that we can offer a service to musicians of all levels, ages and abilities.

To help a player such as Helen Williams was a privilege, so please give us a call and see how we can help."

Understanding

Managing Director Stephen Tighe, no stranger to brass bands himself told 4BR: "Focusing at many different distances can pose real problems for musicians.

A great many find they struggle with the varied focal distances required. Some musicians also suffer from postural problems which are often caused by their deteriorating vision.

With an understanding of the playing and seating positions of professional musicians, this can be overcome and the musicians working and playing life can easily be improved.

Many musicians who experience focusing problems at different distances are unaware that there is a solution to their vision problems. Now thanks to our unique lenses these problems can be overcome."
