Huddersfield brass set for busy weekend

It should be a weekend to remember for the staff and students of the University of Huddersfield this weekend.

The University of Huddersfield Brass Band will be making a guest appearance at the National Youth Championships

There is a busy weekend in store for brass players from the University of Huddersfield (UoH).

On Sunday, student and Black Dyke solo horn player Siobhan Bates takes to the stage at the Stoller Hall in Manchester for the final of the BrassPass 'Young Brass' Award competition.

Meanwhile, the day before, the University of Huddersfield Band under Musical Director Jonathan Beatty will be guest performers at the National Youth Brass Band Championships at Warwick School.

All that and Head of Brass, Richard Ward will also be at Warwick as one of the adjudicators in the Championship Section of the event.

Looking forward

Richard told 4BR: "I want to say thanks to Brass Bands England for asking the University of Huddersfield Brass Band to perform at the Championships. They have been regular competitors at the UniBrass Championships, and I know everyone is looking forward to supporting this event too.

With UniBrass, concerts, exams and recitals, this is the end of a busy term for the brass players and this performance and road trip is a really nice way to round things off."

Memorable weekend

Talking about Siobhan's appearance at the prestigious 'Young Brass Award' event he added: "I come into contact with a number of very talented young players in my playing and education work and Siobhan is up there with the best of them.

We're all rooting for her in the final on Sunday and hope she provides us with us with a great finish to what is sure to be a memorable weekend."
