Paton's for brass at Renfrew Burgh

16 year old Ash Paton has been appointed Assistant Musical Director at Renfrew Burgh Band.

Renfrew Burgh
MD Mark Good welcomes Ash to her new role with Renfrew Brugh

Renfrew Burgh Band has welcomed a new addition to its conducting team.

The reigning Scottish Third Section Champion has announced the appointment of Ash Paton as Assistant Musical Director. The Park Mains High pupil will combine her duties with her existing role as principal cornet of the Burgh Band, working alongside Musical Director, Mark Good.

Ash, who recently represented Renfrewshire as a finalist in Scottish Young Musicians has already led Renfrew in rehearsals and performances, including the popular Renfrew Gala Day.

Youngest conductor

The 16 year old is the youngest conductor to be appointed in the Burgh Band's 114-year history, as the organisation continues to strive to offer opportunities to emerging young conductors.

Speaking about the exciting appointment, Mark Good said: "Welcoming Ash into her new role is a huge coup for the Renfrew Burgh Band.

She combines an innate musicality with a sense of leadership which belies her years, and I know she will be a huge asset to the organisation in the busy and exciting period which lies ahead."

Concert

Renfrew is currently preparing to host its free summer concert, joined by tenor horn star Sheona White at Renfrew Town Hall on Saturday, July 5th.
