The Houston Brass Band in Texas is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a series of events showcasing their commitment to their local community.
Among highlights planned is an October performance featuring the renowned performer Morris Northcutt as well as a joint concert in November with the Galveston Symphony Orchestra.
Premiere
That event will include a world premiere of 'Crossings', a new work celebrating the bicentennial of Norwegian immigration to America, written by composer Rodney Newton.
Speaking to 4BR, the band stated: "Our mission is to inspire and engage a diverse Houston audience with the unique British brass band sound.
Throughout our 25-year history we have also supported the education of young musicians by collaborating with school music programs as well as engaging internationally acclaimed musicians to help us do that.
We have enjoyed our brass band travels (appearing at Whit Friday in 2021) at home and abroad and have been awarded a grant this year from the Cullen Foundation in order to expand our outreach through performances and educational activities in the Houston area."
Support
They added: "The Mary Louise Dobson Fountain also recently awarded funds to support our instrumental music programs at Wharton Senior High and Wharton Junior High schools and for the past two years.
The Houston Arts Alliance has also provided grant support to help us present free concerts in downtown Houston at the Public Library Family Winter Festival."
