Composer Peter Graham has been commissioned by the Kirkintilloch Band to write a new work in memory of the late Peter Fraser MBE.
Entitled 'Keeper of the Flame', the composer said it would be, "a tribute to a man whose lifelong dedication to Kirkintilloch Band, his great passion, sustained it both musically and as an organisation."
Peter revealed that it will be based on the melody of 'Loch Lomond', to reflect what was Peter's "deep sense of tradition and continuity".
Steadfast presence
He added: "The title honours those whose quiet commitment keeps tradition alive. Peter Fraser was such a figure — a steadfast presence whose loyalty, care and service helped to carry the band's spirit from one generation to the next. In this sense, he was truly a keeper of the flame."
The fundraising for the work is close to reaching its two-thirds mark thanks to the generosity of supporters through a special JustGiving page.
Profound effect
Band Manager Allan Wardrope commented: "Peter's passing has had a profound effect on our movement in Scotland. His popularity among all bands was incredible.
We are delighted to have commissioned this work from one of the very best brass band composers of our time, which will serve as a lasting tribute to Peter's influence and legacy."
