Rothwell set for film red carpet

A film about the remarkable Frank Rothwell OBE will be aired this weekend.

Frank Rothwell
Frank raised over £1.1 million on his first rowing trip across the Atlantic in 2021 aged 70.

Frank Rothwell OBE, the indefatigable owner of Oldham Athletic Football team and a supporter of the brass band movement in different ways over the years will be holding a special screening of a film about his life and exploits.

In February 2021, at age 70, he became the oldest person to complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a solo row across the Atlantic Ocean. At the age of 73, he undertook a second journey, finishing in February 2024.

He raised £1.1 million on his first trip and £253,000 on his second for charity.

Oldham man and the Sea

With a touch of tongue in cheek reference to the Ernest Hemingway novel, the film is entitled, 'The Oldham Man & The Sea' and will be screened at Queen Elizabeth Hall this Sunday 26th April with showings at 2.30pm and 6.30pm.

All funds raised will go to support Oldham Athletic Community Trust and Madhlo Youth Zone.
