Rath Trombones, the globally renowned musical instrument manufacturer based in Yorkshire is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Yorkshire pride

It marks three decades of producing their acclaimed hand-crafted trombones, with its founder Michael Rath (above) saying: "I'm so grateful to customers who have supported us down the years.

It's so heart warming to see Rath Trombones performed all over the world in everything from symphony orchestras to brass and military bands, as well as pop, funk and commercial music."

He added: "I'm very proud that Rath Custom trombones have been produced in Yorkshire, and that we continue to grow while maintaining the high standards and attention to detail for which Rath has become so well known."

Cuban connection

The latest global addition to its list of artists is the renowned Cuban trombonist Claudia García Soto, who said: "Becoming a Rath Artist represents a very important step in my professional career. It is an enormous pleasure to be part of a brand that I have always admired for its quality, innovation and dedication to musicians.

Having the opportunity to visit the factory, meet the team personally and discover all the work that goes into creating each instrument has made this experience even more special."

I'm very proud that Rath Custom trombones have been produced in Yorkshire, and that we continue to grow while maintaining the high standards and attention to detail for which Rath has become so well knownFounder, Michael Rath

Bespoke

Company founder Michael Rath started his career as an apprentice with Paxman Musical Instruments before opening his own business. In 1995 jazz trombonist Mark Nightingale asked Michael to create a bespoke instrument — and from there the company has gained global acclaim.

Artists such as Aubrey Logan, Carol Jarvis, David Gibson, Bert Boeren, Dennis Rollins, Csaba Wagner, the Black Dyke Band and many others now play a Rath trombones — each based on the concept of flexibility, unique design and construction quality.

In 2024 Rath Trombones was acquired by John Packer Musical Instruments with its MD, Rob Hanson adding his congratulations to Michael and his team.
