Final call for Boot Camp

The Victorian Band League’s Drill Advisory Board is very pleased to present the inaugural Drum Majors BOOT CAMP…or how to make your Drum Major spiffy!

Victorian Band League

This event is all about training in the art of being a Drum Major and designed to achieve a major improvement in the standard of marching in Victoria.

The VBL welcomes anyone who is either currently a Drum Major or aspires to lead a band on parade, and are hoping for every band in Victoria to be able to send a representative.

If your Drum Major is unavailable to attend, each band is asked to send someone along to take notes and then communicate what they have learned back to the band’s Drum Major and band.Chris Bowman, VBL President.

VBL President, Chris Bowman told 4BRDU, "If your Drum Major
is unavailable to attend, each band is asked to send someone along to take notes and then communicate what they have learned back to the band’s Drum Major and band."

"The day is not only for brass bands. Many of our affiliated bands are concert bands who regularly participate in parades."

Experienced drill instructors will be in attendance and
assisting individuals.

Some of the items to be covered on the day will include:
• Basics of marching
• How to train a band
• Own choice drill movements — entertainment
• Discussion on rules and regulations
• Questions and answers
• Opportunity to have specific matters addressed

The Boot Camp will be held at Moonee Valley Band Room, Bradshaw Street, Essendon (Melways Ref: Map 28, B4 – enter from Buckley Street) on Sunday 3rd February 2008 from 10am to 4pm.

Lunch and drinks will be provided and there will be no charge for attendance.

To assist in catering, please book by contacting Sally at the VBL office by 30th January 2008. Tel:(03) 9362 0200 or email: vbl@vbl.org.au
