Take your Pic!

Newstead Brass have been doing their best to help Summer sales of picnic baskets!

Newstead

Newstead Brass are in the midst of a busy Summer season which is giving plenty of opportunities to share a picnic accompanied by fine music and also helping the development of some of the regions young local musicians.

On Saturday, June 14th, they appeared as guests of the North East Derbyshire Music Centre (NEDMC) Senior Wind Band, at Newbold Community School in Chesterfield.

Stage and screen

Conducted by Ian Batley they entertained a capacity audience with selections from stage, screen and swing band whilst Newstead, conducted by Duncan Beckley, complemented the programme with a varied selection of contemporary brass band compositions and arrangements including solos by Kirk Turner (cornet), Lynden Cooper (euphonium) and Newstead's percussion section.

Newstead performed 'Proms in the Park' at Newstead Abbey in aid of the charity 'Friends of Chernobyl's Children' as the audience, including this year's young visitors from Belorussia, enjoyed picnics4BR

Russian visitors

The following day Newstead Brass entertained an appreciative audience at a free 'Picnic in the Park' in Nottingham University and a week later performed 'Proms in the Park' at Newstead Abbey in aid of the charity 'Friends of Chernobyl's Children' as the audience, including this year's young visitors from Belorussia, enjoyed picnics.

Support

Between these events the Newstead Band Organisation is supporting the debut of 'NG8 Brass' at Nottingham Bluecoat School on Friday July 11th. 'NG8' is a 'starter' band for pupils receiving brass tuition at schools in Nottingham's inner city and has been put together by Simon Hooley, a peripatetic brass tutor in the schools.
