The Hathern Band has informed 4BR of the death of their solo horn player Rachael Baum, who passed away in the LOROS Hospice in Leicester on Friday 24th July.

True bandswoman

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Rachael was not only an outstanding tenor horn player but a true bandswoman. Having been taught by the late Bud Fisher, Rachael was a member of the Loughborough Band who won the Midlands Youth Championships on six consecutive occasions, as well as the National title."

They added: "Rachael has left us a wonderful musical legacy, with her husband Simon playing principal trombone with the band, her middle son Jake being part of the percussion team and her younger son George being a euphonium player in the Hathern Youth Band.

Our thoughts are with Simon and their sons, Harry, Jake and George, at this very sad time."
