Tredegar has announced the signing of 19 year old tuba player Lewis Rees from Upper Rhondda Band, who joins ahead of the start of a busy 2015 contest and concert season.

Outstanding talent

“I’m delighted to welcome Lewis to the band,” MD, Ian Porthouse told 4BR. “He is an outstanding young talent who has great potential both as a soloist and section leader. He has certainly benefited from some excellent teaching during his time with Upper Rhondda and we are sure we can help develop that further.”

Ian added: “Lewis has been playing with us for some time now and has fitted in perfectly with our experienced tuba team. He is a great addition to the band.”

Looking forward

The National Youth Brass Band of Wales tuba player made his contesting debut with Tredegar at the recent Brass in Concert Championship, and is now looking forward to playing on other high profile projects such as the Rambert Ballet partnership and at the Southbank contemporary music festival series in London in April.

Right time

He added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Tredegar. It was the right time for me to make the move after enjoying such a great time developing my playing with Upper Rhondda. Everyone has been so supportive and welcoming, so I’m sure I’m going to enjoy an exciting new chapter in my banding career.”
