Frank Renton talks to Ian Porthouse who has just conducted 'Dark Arteries' by Gavin Higgins, the first score ever written for brass band accompaniment to a contemporary ballet
The work marks the 30th anniversary of the Miners Strike and was performed in a well long production run by the Rambert Ballet with Tredegar Band at Sadlers Wells.
There's also music from Zone One Brass in session under MD Richard Ward.
Formed in 2002 to give students at The Royal College of Music in London experience of brass band repertoire and playing, it's now competing successfully in the Championship Section and qualified this year for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall.
