Bradley heads Whitburn award winners

It wasn't just the Golden Globes that were up for grabs as the annual awards season gets under way , as Chris Bradley leads the winners at Whitburn's celebratory night.

Scottish Champions Whitburn recently rounded off their 2018 season with the presentation of their annual awards.

Player of the Year

Principal cornet star Chris Bradley (right) became the 'Player of the Year' for the fifth time after a year in which his personal performances, as well as the release of his first solo CD, 'Fusion' gained widespread critical acclaim.

Chris also won the coveted 'Best Cornet' medal at the Scottish Championships and was nominated in the 4Barsrest Player of the Year and Solo CD of the Year categories, whilst he was also named in its 'Band of the Year'.

The experienced Chic Cullen was named the 'Players' Player of the Year', whilst 18-year-old percussionist Ryan Bradley was 'Bandsperson of the Year'.

The special 'President's Award' went to Robert Fraser, whilst 10 year Service Medals went to Chris Yule and Stewart Brynes.

Chris also won the coveted 'Best Cornet' medal at the Scottish Championships and was nominated in the 4Barsrest 'Player of the Year' and 'Solo CD of the Year' categories, whilst he was also named in its 'Band of the Year'4BR

Youth Awards

The organisation's Heartlands Band and Youth Band also recognised their award winners, with MD Caroline Farren, outlining the fantastic progress achieved by the talented youth players over the past year.

This saw Whitburn Heartlands finishing second in the Fourth Section of the Scottish Championships with Whitburn Youth Band's giving an outstanding performance at the Scottish Youth Championships.

The Heartlands 'Player of the Year' and 'Player's Player of the Year' was Rachel Harris, whilst Aileen Orr was the 'Youth Player of the Year'.

The 'Most Improved Player' was Rachel McLean with Morgan James was presented with the 'Bandperson of the Year' award.

Tintwistle Band

April 28 • Tintwistle Band are looking for a Soprano and front row cornet players to help complete our team.. We rehearse Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom on Old Road in Tintwistle, and perform a variety of concerts all year round.
