It is not just Dobcross Silver Band that has been picking up well deserved prizes of late — but also the famous banding mecca that it calls home at Dobcross Band & Social Club.
Following in the footsteps of the band which earlier this year which won the North West Area Third Section title to head to Cheltenham in September, the club has also been declared the Greater Manchester 'CAMRA Club of the Year'.
Community commitment
The major accolade from the Campaign for Real Ale consumer organisation recognised the club's commitment and contribution to the local community — one that for many years has seen it host innumerable concerts and Whist Friday contests.
On receiving the award, Terry Lawless, the club's proud chairperson said: "What a year it's been for Band Club Steward Adele Taylor (above) who was appointed just a couple of weeks before last year's Whit Friday band contest.
She continues to be a massive asset to the club as this award not only recognises the club's commitment but also its contribution to the local community."
National title challenge
Like is banding counterpart, the Club is now qualified for the fourth year running to see if it can claim the coveted CAMRA 'National Club of the Year' to be announced in November.
