Tredegar honour long term vocal supporter

Tredegar has made its most distinctive vocal supporter it first honorary vice-president.

Tim Casey
MD Ian Porthouse presented Tim Casey with his honorary vice -presidency.

Tim Casey, a long-time supporter based in the Kent Weald has become the first Honorary Vice-President of Tredegar Town Band.

He has been a familiar figure at concerts and contests for many years after first becoming a fan of MD Ian Porthouse after hearing him play on his first concert appearance with Black Dyke Band in 1992.

That link has been strengthened since, especially in recent years when he has travelled to support Tredegar on their European Champion appearances in Birmingham, Malmo and Palanga.

Blown away

"I was honoured to be a friend of James Watson when he was MD at Black Dyke and was simply blown away when I first heard Ian play," Tim said. "From that Time on I have been a fan, and the way Ian draws music from the very soul of Tredegar when they are on stage reminds me so much of Jim.

Everyone makes you feel a part of the family here — from Ian and his family to every player and helper. My ties have been strengthened through a further connection to principal percussionist Owen Yarrow, whose father Paul is a dear friend who played with Aveley & Newham, so to become the first Honorary Vice -President and be able to continue to support the band as best I can, means such a great deal."

Vocal supporter

After making the presentation at the band's recent appearance at Ardingly College in West Sussex, MD, Ian Porthouse said: "Tim is our most vocal supporter in more ways than one. His passion for the band is second to none and so has been his support."

That was echoed by Band Manager Mark Winstone who added: "We couldn't think of a better person to become our first Honorary Vice-President. Tim's advice and opinions are always sought, as for many years he was a driving force behind the success of Aveley & Newham Band.

As a former drummer in marching bands he was delighted to be able to become a 'Section Sponsor' of our brilliant percussion section."

Fortunate

Mark added: "Tredegar Town Band is fortunate to have supporters across the world and we wish to strengthen that connection after celebrating 150 years of history this year. Tim is sure to be the first of many new Vice-Presidents to come."

Become a supporter and help make our future secure.
