The details for this year's National Youth Championships at the Royal Northern College of Music on Sunday 10th April have been announced.

Co-operative's fifth year

The BFBB is delighted to announce that for the fifth year in a row, The Co-operative will sponsor the event which starts at 9am and will be completed by 8.30pm.

Numbers maintained

This year will one extra band will be competing from last year and amongst the forty-one entrants are a number of debutante's and the return of Camborne Youth who have previously won six National titles in the various sections at the championships.

The Co-operative will sponsor the championships for a fifth consecutive year whilst forty one bands will compete throughout the day4BR

Challenging choices

The bands in the Premier, Advanced and Intermediate Sections will have to get to grips with some challenging music on the day. The Premier Section will tackle Gavin Higgins' 'Fanfares and Love Songs' whilst Philip Wilby's 'Psalms and Alleluias', originally written for the National Children's Band of Great Britain and which was the National Second Section set work in Harrogate last September receives another outing, this time in the Advanced Section.

Of interest to many will be the new commission from Dr Peter Meechan entitled 'Sentinel' which fourteen bands will perform as part of their challenge for National honours in the Intermediate Section

Brownbill, Marshall, Nicholson and Porthouse to judge

As is the norm at the event, all sections will have open adjudication and the judges have also been announced. Lynda Nicholson and James Scott will judge the Premier Section whilst for the first time, Lucy Pankhurst will precide over the proceedings in the Training Section. Malcolm Brownbill, Stan Lippeatt, Richard Marshall, Ian Porthouse and Steve Pritchard-Jones are the remaining adjudicators who will be in attendance.

April 3 • We have vacancies for a trombone player and a bass player. Cleethorpes Band rehearse near the seafront on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Placed 3rd in the NOE 4th section. Other players are always welcome as we may be able to switch positions around
