David Smith was voted 'Bandsman of the Year' by his fellow players, whilst Martin Irwin was presented with the prestigious 'Pondasher Award' chosen by the Black Dyke Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs.

A special award was made to Alison Childs for her organisation of the recent highly successful trip to Japan.

2017 was an interesting year to say the least, but the players showed their character and commitment throughout, something I couldn't have asked anything more ofProf Nicholas Childs

Outstanding dedication and commitment

Prof Childs told 4BR: "The annual presentation dinner is always superbly organised by the band members and is an ideal opportunity for me to thank them for their outstanding dedication and performances throughout the year, and throughout the world.

2017 was an interesting year to say the least, but the players showed their character and commitment throughout, something I couldn't have asked anything more of, whilst the Japan Tour once again showed that Black Dyke is a band with an ever increasing worldwide profile. Now we are all looking forward to 2018."
