The RNCM in Manchester may well be the focus of attention next weekend with its showcase International Brass Band Festival, but it will also be hosting an equally important 'Day of Percussion' on Sunday 8th February.
It returns to showcase a packed day of performance and activity — open to players of all ages and abilities. There will be the opportunity to listen, learn, participate and simply enjoy a series of workshops, clinics and concerts.
Attractions
It all kicks off at 10.00am with a massed percussion ensemble led by RNCM Professor of Percussion Andrea Vogler to get everyone into the rhythm of the day.
After that there features with Emmanuel Sejourne exploring the use of the vibraphone in contemporary music and Sanju Sahai presenting an inspiring session featuring live demonstrations, open discussions, and personalised insights into the art of table.
Cymbals to soundtracks
The BackBeat Percussion Quartet will give a special 30th anniversary performance, whilst Kai Strobel will give a fascinating clinic on the art of small percussion playing — from finger cymbals to bird whistles.
Paul Claris looks behind the scenes of percussion playing on film soundtracks, whilst the day is rounded off with a special concert featuring Kai Strobel and the RNCM Percussionists.
