Red Note Ensemble, Scotland's contemporary music ensemble, is looking for 100 tuba players to take part in a rare performance of Anthony Braxton's 'Composition No. 19' (For 100 Tubas) as part of Lammermuir Festival later this year.
Collective instrument
Braxton's work, written in the 1970s, transforms the tuba into a vast collective instrument which exhibits layers of sustained sound, shifting textures and powerful spatial effects that creates a remarkable atmosphere and resonance. Thought lost, it was rediscovered in 2006 and given a performance in New York.
The performance will take place at Amisfield Walled Garden (around 30 minutes from Edinburgh) on Saturday 19th September, as part of Lammermuir Festival, with the organisers looking for tuba, euphonium, baritone, tenor horn, Wagner tuba or sousaphone to give the performance extra tonal texture.
Be a part
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Come and be part of an unforgettable evening of music as twilight falls over one of East Lothian's most beautiful spaces. If you are over 16, an amateur, student or professional player of any level then we would love you to be a part."
