Horsfield change explained

David Horsfield reveals reason behind his withdrawal as a judge at the English Nationals.

Horsfield

Following the announcement made by the BFBB on 4BR that stated that David Horsfield had withdrawn as an adjudicator for the forthcoming English National Championships due to ‘business pressure’, the adjudicator has in fact revealed the statement was in fact misleading in its explanation.

Echoes

With uncomfortable echoes for the BFBB of the Steven Mead fiasco, David revealed that he had taken the honourable step of withdrawing after concerns had been raised by competing bands by his recent ‘connection’ to the Black Dyke Band.

The reason was due to the fact that concerns had been raised by competing bands about my connection with Black Dyke Band earlier in the yearDavid Horsfield

Misleading

David told 4BR: "I wish is to be known that the recent news item regarding the change of adjudication for the English National Championships gave a slightly misleading impression to the general public after my withdrawal from the panel.

Connection

The reason was due to the fact that concerns had been raised by competing bands about my connection with Black Dyke Band earlier in the year. The publication of a new work for Richard Marshall and the band by my company was premiered at the Leeds Festival of Brass at Leeds University in March.

I also was invited to play in the cornet section at this event which was a big thrill for me as a former member."

Disappointment

David concluded: "After discussions with the British Federation I decided to withdraw from the engagement, which was a big disappointment for me."
