Martin Hindle

4BR has been informed of the death of Martin Hindle.

The well-known and respected West Yorkshire baritone and euphonium player died in hospital after a long illness, on Sunday, 3rd July. He was 72 and leaves a son, Andrew, and daughter, Amanda.

Dyke Juniors to Albert Hall

Born in Queensbury, his first band is believed to have been Black Dyke Juniors (above) where he played under the baton of Geoffrey Whitham.

He later played for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and Crossley's Carpet Works, where he was part of the band that enjoyed considerable success in the 1960's — including a Yorkshire Area victory in 1962 and podium finishes at the Royal Albert Hall.

He went on to be a highly respected performer with Yorkshire Imperial Metals, Hammonds Sauce Works, Clifton & Lightcliffe and Elland Silver.

Passion

A successful businessman, after retiring from regular playing, Martin continued to help out bands from time to time and enjoyed playing with the veteran's band attached to the Whitworth Vale & Healey. He also had a wonderful passion for motor cycling, owning several Velocette models.
