The Black Dyke Yamaha star will be helping inspire young players in North Yorkshire this weekend

Katrina Marzella will be helping youngsters in North Yorkshire get a taste of all things brass this weekend.

The Yamaha artiste is taking part in a 'Big Brass Day!' on Sunday 30th June (9.30am — 3.30pm) hosted by The Band of The Royal Armoured Corps at Piave Lines, Catterick Garrison (DL9 3LE)

The FREE event is being run by the youth music charity NYMAZ who are inviting young brass players to explore different styles of music, play alongside professional musicians, learn new skills, attend workshops and meet leading performers.

The Big Brass Day is aimed at musicians aged up to 18 years old who are at Grade 4 and above and participants can try out a variety of musical styles from funk and jazz to classical and brass band, as well as play alongside Katrina, funk ensemble Flat Cap Brass and the RAC Army Band.

The skills workshops on offer include conducting, small ensemble playing, composition and arrangement, and funk music for brass.

Sarah McWatt, Director of NYMAZ told 4BR: "Big Brass Day marks the start of a series of exciting brass events that we will be hosting over the course of the next 12 months.

With a proud heritage of brass bands in North Yorkshire, we want to help support and develop young brass players across the county to experience the exciting variety of brass music available to them.

We're delighted that some of the country's finest brass talent is joining us to teach and inspire the professional musicians of the future."

Support us for less than a cup of coffee...

4BR wants to ensure that the brass band movement remains vibrant and relevant. We also want to be able to question, challenge and critically examine those who run and play in it, producing high quality journalism that informs as well as entertains our readers.

So if like us you value a strong, independent perspective on the brass band world - then why not consider becoming a supporter and help make our future and that of a burgeoning brass band movement more secure.

So one less cappuccino then?
