The Next Generation enjoy St David celebration

BTM Band's Next Generation has been providing plenty of Welsh inspired entertainment.

Next Generation

The youngest members of the BTM Band organisation certainly celebrated St David’s Day in style recently with a wonderful concert by their Next Generation Band at their headquarters in Bedwas in South Wales.

Packed audience

Playing to a packed audience, the youngsters entertained for over two hours with a wide variety of music including an ‘Abba Medley’ and ‘Mission Impossible’, as well as more traditional favourites such as ‘True and Trusty’ and ‘Moon River’.

There were also ten solo performances from rising stars Sam Hughes, Lloyd Barnaby, Sam Levy and George Gapper, whilst the very youngest players of the BTM Beginners Class gave their premiere performances of ‘Mini March’ and ‘Chorale’.

Welsh celebration

The Welsh celebration of their Patron Saint saw the band perform ‘Bread of Heaven’, ‘Ar Hyd y Nos’, ‘Men of Harlech’, ‘Calon Lan’ and many others – including a rousing performance of the National Anthem.

The band room was decorated in Welsh flags and daffodils, whilst the interval refreshments consisted of Welsh cakes and bara brith.

It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the abundance of young talent we have at BTMMark Hutcherson

Great opportunity

Musical Director, Mark Hutcherson told 4BR: "It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the abundance of young talent we have at BTM.

Several players performed solos, and we also encouraged our learners to show us what they have been practising, with tutors Bethan Hutcherson and Kirsty Davies."

He added: "The future is looking really bright for BTM with so many youngsters committing themselves to three rehearsals a week as well as all the concerts and competitions we take part in."
