Brass for Africa has launched its publication arm with titles by leading composers

The charity Brass for Africa has announced the launch of Brass for Africa Music Publications, with its titles available through the 4Barsrest.shop and its own website.

Brass for Africa Executive Director Jim Trott told 4BR: "As a creative charity believing whole heartedly in the huge educational, community, social and personal development benefits of music, Brass for Africa is delighted to be able to publish original music composed especially for the charity by acclaimed brass band composers."

100% profits

Brass for Africa will receive 100% of all profits from the sale of the works; funds that are vital to enable the charity to fulfill its mission of transforming the lives of extremely disadvantaged children and young people in Africa through music education and life-skills training.

The first major composer to publish works in this way is Alan Fernie, who was appointed Brass for Africa's Composer in Residence in 2016, and has visited Kampala several times to teach, conduct and mentor the young musicians and teachers.

He told 4BR: "Having seen firsthand the incredible life changing work of Brass for Africa, I feel privileged to be involved with the charity, especially as their Composer in Residence.

I can also say that I feel my work for Brass for Africa has made me a better composer, a better teacher and indeed a better person!"

Exciting development

Talking about the link to the expanding 4BR shop, Jim Trott added: "We are delighted to link up with 4BR in this way — as they have been a great supporter of our work.

The launch of Brass for Africa Music Publications is such an exciting development for the charity and we hope that other composers will now join us to help our work and make a tangible, positive change to young people living very difficult lives."

Support us for less than a cup of coffee...

4BR wants to ensure that the brass band movement remains vibrant and relevant. We also want to be able to question, challenge and critically examine those who run and play in it, producing high quality journalism that informs as well as entertains our readers.

So if like us you value a strong, independent perspective on the brass band world - then why not consider becoming a supporter and help make our future and that of a burgeoning brass band movement more secure.

So one less cappuccino then?
