Lostock enjoy 70th anniversary celebrations

The 70th anniversary celebrations of Lostock Hall Memorial Band were enjoyed by players, conductors and supporters alike — right back to those who were at their first rehearsal...

Lostock
The celebrations were enjoyed by everyone at a packed 70th anniversary event

Lostock Hall Memorial Band recently celebrated its 70th anniversary with a concert featuring the current band alongside players and conductors who have graced their ranks for the whole of their proud history.

In front of a packed audience the event was a great success, with the first half given over to the current band who after the interval were then joined by 50 past alumni.

Highlight

A highlight was a performance of 'Buglers Holiday' featuring third cornet Ron Heyes (aged 79) who has been with the band from the very first rehearsal (including a spell as MD), alongside his son Brian Heyes (now with Leyland) and his daughter Jannine (currently with Woodfalls) who both grew up playing for Lostock Hall.

Over the years the band has prided its self on the number of young players it has taught and inspired, with many, such as Brian and Jannine moving on to enjoy their playing all over the country. The current senior band features a number of young players who have come through the ranks.

It's been an honour to work with such a committed and forward thinking organisation that works so hard to gain the respect of the local communityMD, Josh Hughes

Remarkable year

2018 has been a remarkable year, with victories at the Brass at the Guild and North West Regional Championships, and fine seventh place finish at the National Final in Cheltenham. The band will be promoted to the Third Section for 2019.

Looking back at the celebrations and the past season, MD Josh Hughes told 4BR: "2018 has been a fantastic year for everyone connected to the band.

It's been an honour to work with such a committed and forward thinking organisation that works so hard to gain the respect of the local community.

Looking towards the next 70 years we have just re-launched our training band and we are looking forward to making our mark in the Third Section in 2019."
